Subject: more of them than us

I just got back from Henderson Lawn where I tried to host a candlelight vigil. My idea was just to sit with people and listen to music and be together as we needed to talk. We were almost immediately descended upon by media from all over the world. They were so persistent that we stayed less than an hour because we just couldn’t take it anymore. Even when I asked them to take a step back and just let us stand in circle with our community, they kept at us. It was really hard. I feel molested.

So, we left and came on back home. We are all still mostly in shock and but are also grieving the loss. The loss of the feeling or appearance of innocence, safety, and control as much as anything else. The one thing about going out like that was that the stories of the people I know and love here who’ve been affected by losing professors and fellow students started coming back to us more rapidly.

It’s going to be a hard week.

Love,
Shannon
