Hello there, Friends and Fans!
Well, as it turns out, that New Year’s Resolution wasn’t quite as easy as I’d hoped it’d be. What can I say? I’m a louse! But, as a special Valentine’s treat, I thought I’d bring you a special edition from the adventures in online dating.
So, just to bring everyone up to speed, the fellow that you may remember me mentioning back in the fall lasted a whole whopping two months. That is, if anyone’s keeping tally, a world record in RedCricketteLand. We give him mad props. Much was learned. And hopefully, over time, these lessons will just continue to bear fruit.
I know that in the past I’ve regaled you with many tales of hilarity, but I’m just not going to do that tonight. Because it’s time that I get down to being honest. I’m kind of funny. And the ability to be funny has been a very good mask to hide behind rather than face the truth of it all.
But not tonight. Tonight, the bare, naked truth.
I’m done.
And I don’t mean I just don’t want to continue to go out on a bunch of these dates and amass humiliating stories so that I can tell them to people later.
I mean I am finally ready to admit to myself and the world that I would very much like to be partnered in this life.
There. I said it. And it didn’t even hurt. Much.
So, with that said, I’m sending along my profile to you, my closest 100 friends and colleagues. I figure if you get a chance actually to see the way I’m describing myself and this magical person I’ve yet to meet, perhaps you’ve met him and just didn’t think about how fantastic we’d be together. I kind of doubt that. More likely though, I figure you can help me meditate on this. Print it out and put it on your refrigerator or shrine or in your toilet reading pile. Maybe, if 100 more people than just me are thinking about it, we can manifest the energy that it’ll take.
Now, before you read any further, I’m not open to criticism about this profile. You can’t get all judgy-judgy about the little white lies I may have told about myself or that I could have chosen a better picture. If you think you can do better, get your own profile. One person has already told me she thinks this profile shows me as too picky and that got a big harumph from me. We already knew that. My Memaw, God rest her soul, told me that I was too picky. I’m gonna call it discerning.
I suppose that should be about all the preamble you need. I appreciate your careful, prayerful consideration. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Cheers,
Shannon

About my life and what I’m looking for:
I dare you to show me you’re really an original. Genuine without being sickeningly sincere. I’m looking for someone who is kind and has a good sense of humor ~ that perfect blend of Jimmy Stewart and Jon Stewart. Not caught up in the rat race, while still being mission-driven and passionate about one’s work; i. e. should know how to draw boundaries around work and “self time.” Must like jazz.
Love me – love my gay friends ~ no homophobes allowed.
I am not a head-turner, but I am told I’m pretty funny. Ask me about my Southern belle jokes. I love life. And I especially love my life right now ~ my job, the place I’ve come to at this point in the journey, and being here now. I’m pretty smart; I care deeply about working toward a better world, and I can see both sides of almost any issue.
Having been a DJ in college and for some weddings, I’ve amassed a fairly eclectic collection of nearly 15 days of music on my computer. This has also led to a special series called the Hoo Hah Mixes.
Basically, you need to be old enough to take care of yourself, young enough to still be curious about the world. Strong enough to know what you want in the world, and bold enough to call me on my $%^&. Laugh with me, read books together in bed with me, acknowledge that farts happen, and meet me out back at the compost pile. Ok, maybe we can take care of each other.
P. S. You get 100, 000 points if you know where my tagline comes from without looking it up.

[Oh, one more thing, please understand that there’s a lot of formatting on the actual profile page that gets lost in translation here, so this might not make total sense looking at it this way. I tried to reformat it as much as possible, but, well, you know how it goes…]
At first I didn't get that it was a copy/ paste from a dating site, and I thought your height in centimeters was a funny addition.
My current favorite song: Ray LaMontagne's “Jolene” as sung by the Zac Brown Band. LOVE.
I'll think about it – I know people in Atlanta since I'm from there. But it seems that most of the HS guy friends I'm still in touch with are gay. So that doesn't help you much, eh?
And I don't think you're too picky in your profile, but I could see myself making this mistake if I were in your shoes so I'll give you unsolicited advice: don't necessarily look for a person to display these qualitites in his professional life. I've realized in my life that I can exercise my passions through hobbies and charity work without having to work for a charity. That way I get to do other things that keep my brain happy (and my bank account full) at work, and help my community and my sanity on my own time. 🙂
Love you, Shannon! You should blog more – you have things to say. From FB snippets it sounds like you're having a wonderful, challenging 2010. Good for you! I hope your partner comes along.

LOVE the Jimmy Stewart/ Jon Stewart thing!
