GEORGIA COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (gcadv)
Overview
Beginning in 2026, I began working with the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence to support their advocacy efforts. Through workshops and individual coaching, I am helping survivors of domestic violence through the process of cultivating and delivering their stories for testimony at the state capitol for Stand with Survivors Day, as well as for other public campaigns and advocacy efforts.
Partnership
Initiated by Karimah Dillard, Director of Policy at the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, this partnership has become one of the most fertile manifestations of the StoryMuse mission in 2026.
Coaching & Workshop
I first coached a small cohort to speak at the Georgia State Capitol for Stand with Survivors Day in February 2026.
Building on the early success of that endeavor, Karimah came back and asked if we could go deeper with our work together. In October, I facilitated a four-hour workshop with ten survivors and organizational partners to help them prepare for the next round of advocacy needs. I will also be doing more individual coaching with selected participants coming out of that workshop to get ready for Stand with Surivors Day 2027.
It has truly been a pleasure working with Shannon. She approached her craft with such care, intention, and a deep commitment to trauma-informed practice. By creating a space safe enough for survivors to share their stories, she was able to bring forward the stories that were already inside of them in a way that felt safe, empowering and authentic. Beyond her skill, she was a delight to work with, bringing warmth, respect and compassion to every interaction.
It was an amazing workshop. Thoughtful and extremely engaging. New friends were made and lives were changed. I know mine was.
No matter how good of a speaker you think you are, coaching will never hurt anyone. All it can do is help you elevate your power.
One thing I learned that was unexpected is how much you can say in a short amount of time and convey the same point.
